Wie transportiert man sein Fahrradschloss auf dem Fahrrad?
Protecting your bike with a good lock is essential. But you still need to be able to carry it around without hassle! The stronger the lock, the heavier it is, and transporting it can quickly become a problem for cyclists. Fortunately, there are several practical solutions for taking it with you wherever you go. Let's take a look at some tips for easily transporting your bike lock!

Carrying your lock directly on your bike
The simplest solution is often to simply attach the lock directly to the bike! Thanks to the geometry of the frame and the various attachment points available, it is possible to attach your lock in a practical and secure manner.
Attaching it to the frame
Most U-locks now come with a specific mounting bracket. This attaches to the frame with two screws and holds the lock in place with a latch, allowing you to attach and detach it in one easy step. This system has the advantage of being discreet and space-saving when you are riding without a lock, which means you don't have to remove and reattach the bracket every time you go out. This is also the case for cable locks, which can be attached under the saddle using a special mount, a lightweight and discreet solution for simple protection.
At Zéfal, most U-lock models already include this type of mount. We have also developed a new option: the K-Traz Holster ! Universal and adjustable, this mount allows you to safely carry U-locks, even the heaviest ones (up to 4 kg), while adapting to most frames. Finally, cable ties such as our K-Traz Zip3 can be stored... pretty much anywhere!
Attachment to the bottle cage
Another solution is folding locks. Like our K-Traz F16, the advantage over other locks is that they are easy to store while maintaining a high level of security. They usually have a base that attaches to the bottle cage screws. This solution is both discreet and practical: the lock stays securely in place, does not interfere with pedaling, and does not detract from the bike's appearance!
On the luggage rack
Finally, if your bike is equipped with a rack, you can also attach a strap or suitable bracket to hold the lock in place. This allows you to carry even the heaviest models while distributing the weight over the rear of the bike, an ideal option for everyday cyclists as it allows you to carry both panniers and your lock in the same place.

Carrying a lock with you
When it is not possible to easily attach a lock to your bike, or if you prefer to keep your equipment with you at all times, there are several ways to carry your lock! This approach is particularly popular with urban cyclists who make a series of short trips with several stops in order to save time, such as delivery drivers and couriers.
The backpack: the simplest solution
The backpack remains the most popular option. It allows you to effortlessly carry a U-lock, a chain, or even a folding lock. The advantage here is that the weight is carried on your shoulders and nothing gets in the way of your bike. However, you need to make sure the lock is securely fastened to prevent it from moving around and damaging your other belongings. On long journeys, the extra weight can also become uncomfortable, especially if you are already carrying other items.
Carrying a lock with you
For cyclists who want to keep their shoulders free, belt attachment is an interesting alternative. These systems, mainly designed for U-locks, allow you to slide the lock against your hip so that it is always within reach. This method is particularly practical in the city: the lock can be accessed in seconds and its weight is better distributed than in a bag. However, it is not a solution for long distances or for cyclists who cycle competitively, as the friction against the thigh will become uncomfortable.
Wear the lock across your chest
Some heavy chains are designed to be worn across the body, like a strap. This allows you to keep your hands free while distributing the weight evenly. This method of transport is particularly popular with urban cyclists who make frequent quick stops, but is not at all suitable for long rides, as the chain can be cumbersome.
In summary, carrying your lock with you is a practical and flexible solution, especially in urban areas, but it has its limitations in the long term, where a dedicated lock on your bike will be much more effective and energy-efficient. It can also prevent you from forgetting your lock when you leave home! In any case, you now know the different solutions available to you for carrying your lock on your bike!
